While fishing is still a popular non-surf activity on our boats, it’s getting a bit more disappointing each year. We will still be trolling when we move and we will still catch fish, but its definitely not what it used to be like. However, there are still a lot of trevally and you will occasionally land the larger pelargics, so it’s still fun to try.
Our boats are set up with 2 trolling rod and reels, gaffs and some lures, but we could always use more. Rapala Magnums or weighted bullet head are the most successful, with green or light colored working the best. We travel at approximately 8 – 10 knots, so have this in mind, as we sometimes lose a few to the sea. Fish can’t be brought into Padang, but it sure is great to gobble them up on the boat. Therefore, personalized fishing gear is very welcome aboard: feel free to bring rods (including popping rods), reels, lures, etc.
